RC Social Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Creativity Office organized this year’s first On Wednesdays We Wonder (OWWW) with Ada talking about her transition from fencing to debate.

OWWW, which started two years ago in a Zoom meeting, now continues to be a place where the RC community comes together to listen to a member of its community to share their experiences or ideas about various topics. Last year the talks took place in Rabbit Hole in the morning during the first break, however, this year the venue has changed to Commons Amphitheater to open space for more people to come and listen in a spacious environment.

Around 30 people come together to listen to Ada talk about two different aspects of herself: as a fencer and as a debater, as evidence of how people can achieve many things at two different extremes in life. Ada took us through her own experience of the pandemic, how it shaped her decisions, and pointed out the differences in her life before and after the pandemic. She mentioned that entering high school, she wanted to do something different in her life. That was when she decided to give a chance to debating. She realized she loved talking about politics and social issues, and inspired us to pursue our own passions. It was challenging at first, but she kept doing it and now she’s doing the thing she loves. In her own words: “In order to be successful, you don’t have to think that you have to be successful. If you work hard and if you love it, that’s the most important thing.”

We thank Ada for initiating this SEIC tradition this year with her talk, the organization team for making this come to life, and the participants who co-created a community. SEIC will be coming with many other interesting talks during the year with many different speakers. Remember, everyone is a learner!
